Report: Calipari finalizing plans for NBA scouting combine at Kentucky

University of Kentucky coach John Calipari has never been one to abide by the normal standards set by other NCAA basketball programs.

While many have lamented the wave of 'one-and-done' players coming through college basketball on the way to the NBA, Calipari has embraced the model and made Kentucky one of the go-to destinations for players looking to get NBA-ready as soon as possible.

Calipari is reportedly ready to take that stance to another level. According to Yahoo! Sports, he has invited officials from all 30 NBA teams to Lexington, Ky., on Oct. 11 and 12 to watch his start-studded roster of blue-chip recruits run a scouting combine-style series of drills.

NBA personnel aren't allowed to interact with college undergrads, but that can't stop Calipari from running his players through a series of drills set to appeal to NBA-level play style. Players are expected to run full-court five-on-five, pick-and-roll sets, and individual skill work in the showcase.

While it remains to be seen if the combine will further the NBA prospects of any of his players, it will undoubtedly be used as fuel for recruitment to what is already college basketball's top NBA feeder system.

After the combine, Calipari is expected to close his doors to NBA executives and scouts for weeks, allowing them to get their looks before the season and allow his team to focus on games after the showcase.

Kentucky has a number of highly touted prospects on its roster, including five of Draft Express's Top 30. The Wildcats are expected to open the season No. 1 in the polls.
