Roy Williams wants to coach 10-12 more years

Robert Deutsch-USA TODAY Sports

Roy Williams said Friday he hopes to coach another 10-12 years, even though he asserted around this time last year that he'd be prepared to ride off into the sunset in five to nine years.

While responding to a question about former North Carolina star Jerry Stackhouse being his potential successor, Williams suggested the reigning NBA D-League Coach of the Year would have to wait a while.

"We're very fortunate, we've got a lot of our former players in coaching so it's a pretty good coaching tree," Williams told Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog. "So we're going to have some good choices. I just hope that's about 10 or 12 years from now."

Williams will turn 67 in August and has encountered a variety of health issues in recent years, but it seems winning another national championship has made him feel younger. Williams collected his third title with the Tar Heels in April.
