137 college underclassmen declared for the NBA draft

The deadline to enter the 2017 NBA Draft has come and gone and the number of college underclassmen that declared is absolutely staggering.

The list shows 137 collegiate players filed paperwork as early-entry candidates for this year's event with a deadline of May 24 to decide whether to remain in the draft or return to school, as per Brian Seltzer of Sixers.com.

The 137 figure jumps to 182 when including international players, and that's in addition to graduating college seniors. For a draft that only has 60 picks, that's a high number of players who won't be hearing their names called in June.

A large number of the underclassmen that declared will return to school after receiving evaluations from NBA teams, provided they don't sign with an agent during the process. The NBA Draft Combine is being held in Chicago from May 9-14, an event that usually is the determining factor for most players in returning to school.
