Report: Texas freshman Andrew Jones to test NBA draft waters

Brendan Maloney / USA TODAY Sports

Andrew Jones' stay in college could be brief, as sources told Jeff Goodman of ESPN that the Texas freshman will declare for the 2017 NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent.

Jones came to Texas as the seventh-ranked shooting guard in the country, and was listed by ESPN as the 29th-best prospect in the class of 2016.

Much like the Longhorns, the 6-foot-4, 190-pounder had an up-and-down season in which he averaged 11.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per contest. One area of concern for him at the next level is his 3-point shooting, as the Irving, Texas, native made just 32 percent of his attempts this season.

With the decision not to hire an agent, Jones is eligible to return for his sophomore year at Texas should he remove his name from the draft pool by the May 24 deadline.
