Miami (Ohio) will be replacing its leading scorer next season, as freshman guard Michael Weathers announced Tuesday that he's asking for his release with the intention to transfer.

The 6-foot-2, 161-pounder wasn't ranked by ESPN recruiting coming out of high school, but flourished in his first season with the Redhawks, pouring in 16.7 points per game. He also chipped in with 4.8 assists and 4.2 rebounds per contest for Miami, who finished a disappointing 11-21 on the season.

The school decided to part ways with head coach John Cooper after the campaign, which was likely a major reason for Weathers' decision to play elsewhere.

As per NCAA transfer regulations, Weathers will be forced to sit out next season before becoming eligible for 2018-19.
