Suns field youngest starting lineup in NBA history in loss to Nets

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

One would be hard-pressed to find anyone outside of friends and family that was deeply interested in the Phoenix Suns-Brooklyn Nets game Thursday night at Barclays Center, but one - fairly telling - piece of history emerged.

The Suns began the contest with the youngest starting lineup in NBA history, according to ESPN, referencing Elias Sports Bureau, at an average age of 21 years and 14 days.

Pos Name Age
SF Derrick Jones Jr. 20 years 36 days
PF Marquese Chriss 19 years 264 days
C Alex Len 23 years 280 days
SG Devin Booker 20 years 144 days
PG Tyler Ulis 21 years 77 days

To put it in perspective, that's a younger unit than seven of the eight NCAA starting lineups that played in Sweet 16 action on Thursday night. Only Purdue, at 20 years and 265 days, was younger.

The Nets spanked the Suns 126-98.

Phoenix is left to play out the string with its youth movement - while increasing its odds of landing more lottery balls - after shutting down guards Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight for the season.
