The final 130 seconds of Kentucky-Wichita State was bananas

Thomas Joseph-USA TODAY Sports

Most expected the second-round matchup between Kentucky and Wichita State to be an epic battle, and the last two minutes of Saturday's game deserve a full-length recap of their own.

The two teams battled back and forth all day, with Kentucky entering the final 2:10 up two points.

Here's how the final 130 seconds played out.

Malik Monk had been quiet for the majority of the contest, but saved his contributions for the end, sticking a massive 3-pointer with two minutes to play to give the Wildcats a five-point lead. Monk finished the day 3-of-10, but that triple washed away any previous misses.

Following a mistimed jumper by De'Aaron Fox early in a late possession, head coach John Calipari made it abundantly clear to the star freshman that he wanted him to drive the ball next time down the court.

Fox certainly got the message, as the speedy guard blew by the Shockers' defense on the next possession to throw down a massive one-handed smash. That came right after the Shockers had narrowed the gap to two points, so Kentucky held a four-point lead heading into the last minute of action.

Landry Shamet made sure that Fox's monster dunk did nothing to turn the tide by promptly burying a deep triple at the other end, bringing Wichita State to within one point.

After a Kentucky miss, the Shockers came down the court trailing by one with 20 seconds left on the clock. While Monk struggled on the offensive end all night, he was a force defensively, and provided one of the plays of the game, blocking the three-point attempt from Markis McDuffie to keep the Wildcats up one.

After Monk hit two free throws to push the lead to three, Shamet needed to drain a triple to push the game to overtime, but Bam Adebayo provided the finishing touches on the win with the Wildcats' second straight block.

Unfortunately one team had to lose on Sunday, but in entertainment value alone, both squads walk off the court winners after that thrilling display.
