Brett Rojo / USA TODAY Sports

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo picked up his 14th career NCAA tournament victory against a better-seeded opponent in Friday's 78-58 first-round victory over Miami.

Izzo now sports a 14-10 career record against higher-seeded teams, while the 14 wins are the most by any coach in March Madness history.

The No. 9 Spartans came out of the gate sluggish versus the No. 8 Hurricanes, falling behind 17-5 early, but used a massive 25-4 run in the first half to erase the deficit and take control of the game.

Izzo will go for win No. 15 on Sunday against top-seeded Kansas.
