Michigan State's Harris to undergo season-ending knee surgery

Michigan State guard Eron Harris will undergo season-ending surgery to repair the right knee injury he suffered Saturday that resulted in him being stretchered off the court versus Purdue.

"We all feel absolutely awful for Eron," Spartans coach Tom Izzo said in a Sunday announcement. "As I said last night, I couldn't ask for more than what Eron has given me and this program.

"Over the last month he's grown even more as a leader and been an example to his young teammates. And maybe I didn't even fully grasp it until I walked on the court and saw the admiration his teammates had for him and the tears in their eyes. There's no faking the respect they have for Eron as a man, as a player, and most importantly a teammate."

The injury ends Harris' college career, as the senior has exhausted his five years of NCAA eligibility. The Indianapolis native began his career at West Virginia before transferring to Michigan State for his last two years. He sat out the 2014-15 season to satisfy NCAA transfer requirements.

Harris averaged 10.7 points per game this season after contributing 9.3 last year. He starred for the Mountaineers in 2013-14, posting 17.2 points per contest.

Michigan State, which has been hit hard by the injury bug this season, plays the first of its four remaining regular-season games Thursday against Nebraska.
