Fueled by Nowitzki meeting, Michigan's Wagner torches Wisconsin

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

It's amazing what a meeting with an NBA legend will do for one's game.

Michigan's Moritz Wagner met with fellow German star Dirk Nowitzki on Wednesday when the Dallas Mavericks visited the Detroit Pistons, and whatever he said clearly had a positive effect on the Wolverines sophomore.

Wagner torched the nets against Wisconsin on Thursday to the tune of 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting, leading Michigan to a much-needed win over the Badgers.

It's the third time this season that Wagner has topped the 20-point plateau, falling just two points short of his season-high of 23. While the Berlin native is known for his 3-point shooting touch, he showed Thursday that he's not afraid to drive to the basket either, throwing down a mammoth dunk late in the contest.

The 6-foot-11, 240-pounder is averaging 11.9 points per game on the season, making a sparkling 41 percent of his triples, and is certainly drawing comparisons to Nowitzki with his game.

While a comparison to the NBA legend is a major stretch at this point, the Wolverines are definitely happy with their own version of the "Dunking Deutschman."
