UNLV's Morgan to miss rest of season with hip, shoulder injuries

UNLV forward Dwayne Morgan will miss the remainder of the season with hip and shoulder injuries, the team announced Thursday.

Morgan has been sidelined since early December, but the Rebels were holding out hope he would return to the court.

"We were hopeful that Dwayne would be able to return this season," head coach Marvin Menzies said. "Unfortunately, his injuries have lingered on and returning this season isn’t possible. Missing him has impacted our team, however, just like in life, other guys have opportunities to step in and step up."

It's a disappointing end to a season at UNLV that almost never happened. Morgan requested a release to transfer last March, but had a change of heart a month later. The junior went on to average more than nine points and seven rebounds per game in 2016-17.

The season may not be a total loss for Morgan, though, as UNLV plans to apply for a medical redshirt for its forward, giving him back a year of eligibility if it's approved.
