Izzo: Gavin Schilling missing rest of season is '99 percent definitive'

Michigan State is likely going to be without Gavin Schilling for the rest of the season.

Head coach Tom Izzo told Matt Charbonneau of The Detroit News on Tuesday that Schilling is not expected to play this season after undergoing surgery on his right knee in October. Schilling suffered the injury in a non-contract drill in practice and has yet to see the court this season for the Spartans.

"In my mind, it's 99 percent definitive," Izzo said Tuesday. "I think in his mind it is, too. So, I guess we could almost say that his chances of coming back are slim this year."

There is a very outside chance that Schilling could make his return at the end of this season, but the favorable option appears to be taking a redshirt in order to save eligibility for next season.

Schilling averaged 3.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 12.5 minutes for the Spartans last season.
