Michigan State's Gavin Schilling: Possible medical redshirt

A decision on the status of Schilling (knee) is expected to arrive within "a couple of weeks", MLive.com reports.

Analysis:

Schilling suffered a non-contact knee injury during an October practice that ultimately required surgery, and the big man hasn't participated in a game yet this year as a result. Although the Spartans could certainly use the help down low following the departure of Deyonta Davis to the NBA, they clearly won't be taking any chances with Schilling. If the team's medical staff does not see enough improvement in the afflicted knee, it's possible Schilling could be shut down for the season, and return in 2017-18 as a graduate senior.
