Duke freshman Giles undergoes left knee arthroscopy

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) Duke says freshman Harry Giles has undergone a surgical procedure on his left knee.

Team spokesman Cory Walton says Giles had an arthroscopy Monday. The typical recovery time is six weeks, and Duke begins the season Nov. 11 against Marist.

Coach Mike Krzyzewski calls the procedure ''the right step for Harry'' because ''it will help him be 100 percent going forward.''

Giles is one of the highest-profile members of the Blue Devils' star-studded recruiting class. They figure to open the season as a favorite to win their sixth national title and third since 2010.

Giles tore several ligaments in that knee three years ago. He missed his senior season in high school after tearing the ACL in his other knee last November.
