Georgia Tech names Todd Stansbury athletic director

Athletic director Todd Stansbury has left Oregon State for the same position at Georgia Tech.

Stansbury was introduced by the Yellow Jackets in a press conference Thursday, marking his return to the school he played linebacker for in the early 1980s.

"Oregon State is an excellent university, and its men's and women's programs are among the best in the Pac-12 Conference and successfully compete against top programs nationally," Stansbury said in a news release from the Beavers. "But Georgia Tech is my alma mater. Anyone who has heard me speak knows of the passion I have for the opportunities that I was granted there as a student, as an athlete, and as a past member of the Georgia Tech athletics department."

Stansbury had been with Oregon State since June 2015, after spending the previous three years as the athletic director at UCF. At Georgia Tech, he'll replace Mike Bobinski, who announced in August he was taking the same job at Purdue.

Stansbury inherits an athletic department with football and basketball programs that have struggled recently. However, the football team is off to a 3-0 start under ninth-year coach Paul Johnson, and the basketball team is set to begin its first season with coach Josh Pastner.

Oregon State, meanwhile, said it plans to name an interim athletic director shortly, and will begin searching for a permanent replacement immediately.
