DeAndre Ayton, the ESPN 100's No. 1 overall recruit in the 2017 class, made Arizona a much scarier team Tuesday, announcing his commitment to the Wildcats.

Ayton revealed his decision during an ESPN broadcast, choosing Arizona over Kansas and Kentucky - two programs that have landed No. 1 recruits since 2012.

"I felt comfortable with (head coach Sean Miller) and the staff - and it also allows me to be close to my mom for college," Ayton said, according to Jeff Goodman of ESPN. The big man added that "college is a must," so attending Arizona will allow him to accomplish that goal while remaining close to family.

Miller has been able to recruit a top-seven class in each of the past six seasons, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN, and the addition of the 7-foot, 220-pound center out of Hillcrest Academy will certainly give him a strong case for a seventh.
