Record number of undrafted underclassmen in 2016 NBA Draft

The 2016 NBA Draft has come and gone, and while many dreams were realized Thursday, many were also left blowing in the wind.

This year's edition of the draft saw a record number of undrafted underclassmen, rising from a total of 17 in 2015, the previous best, to a whopping 30 in 2016, according to Blake Williams of Forbes.

Only 29 of the 59 underclassmen that declared for the draft heard their name called Thursday, slightly above the yearly average of 28.6 underclassmen selected since the one-and-done era began in 2006.

In the pool of players left undrafted, only seven were college sophomores. Tony Anderson of Southeast Missouri State, Derrick Jones Jr. of UNLV, and Zak McLaughlin of Gadsden State CC were the only freshman who declared but weren't selected.

Only time will tell if this drastic spike is a sign of things to come for NBA hopefuls, or whether 2016 will remain an outlier.
