Report: Kentucky's Derek Willis found lying in street prior to arrest

Details from Derek Willis' public intoxication arrest on Saturday do not paint a picture of a particularly good time for the Kentucky forward.

According to an arrest citation obtained by the Courier-Journal's Jon Hale, the police were sent because Willis was drunk and "lying in the middle of the street." The authorities arrived to find Willis on the ground next to the open driver-side door of a vehicle.

According to the deputy, Willis couldn't identify where he was beyond "northern Kentucky" and spoke in slurred speech. The citation also said Willis "was a danger to himself and others." The junior, who turns 21 on June 21, was bailed out from county jail eight hours after being booked.

A school spokesperson told the Hale that Kentucky was gathering information on the incident before making a ruling.

During his junior campaign, the 6-foot-9 Willis averaged 7.7 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting 44.2 percent from beyond the arc.
