Melo Trimble withdraws from 2016 NBA Draft

Melo Trimble is headed back to Maryland for his junior season, as the star guard withdrew from the 2016 NBA Draft on Wednesday night.

"I am really excited to return for my junior season at Maryland," Trimble said in a statement. "It's truly special that I get to continue to play in front of my family, friends and our amazing fans."

The electric point guard led Maryland in scoring with 14.8 points per game, while also leading the team in assists with 4.9 per contest. After losing Jake Layman and Rasheed Sulaimon to graduation, and Robert Carter Jr. and Diamond Stone to the draft, securing Trimble's services for next season is huge for Mark Turgeon's program.

"After gathering information throughout this process, I agree this is the best decision for him," Turgeon said. "He is a winner and his impact on our program has been immeasurable."

Despite Trimble's return, the Terrapins are still likely a rebuilding outfit in the Big Ten for the 2016-17 campaign. After the point guard's 14.8 points, Jared Nickens' 5.4 points per game is the highest returning total on the team.
