San Diego State's Steve Fisher returning for 18th season as coach

Steve Fisher isn't ready for retirement just yet, as the 71-year-old announced Wednesday that he is returning to the San Diego State bench for an 18th season.

"I feel good," Fisher told Mark Zeigler of the San Diego Union-Tribune. "I love our team coming back. I feel really good about what we've been doing, and I want to be a part of it. So I'm going to be back."

Fisher has two years remaining on his contract with the school, and admitted the decision of his son, Mark, to return as special assistant certainly aided his choice.

"I enjoy everything about it," Fisher said. "Even the recruiting is fun even though it's work, but it's fun. Mark will work again, so that's fun being with him. It's a win-win for our family."

The Aztecs failed to make the NCAA tournament for the first time in seven years last season, despite winning the Mountain West Conference regular-season title. Fisher's run with the program has been fairly remarkable, as the team has posted 25-plus wins in seven of the last eight seasons.

While he committed to this coming season, he stopped short of guaranteeing he would coach through the end of his contract.

"I'm saying I'm going to be back for this year," the legendary coach said. "I have another year left on the contract after this one, and we'll look and see what the landscape is a year from now."

With 367 wins and counting at the school, the Aztecs will be hopeful Fisher continues feeling fresh for years to come.
