Report: Cal State Bakersfield inks head coach Rod Barnes to 5-year extension

Rod Barnes is being rewarded for a solid season.

Cal State Bakersfield has signed the head coach to a five-year contract extension through 2023, a source told Jeff Goodman of ESPN.

Barnes is in his fifth campaign with the Roadrunners, compiling a record of 81-79. His best work came this past season, as the 50-year-old guided the program to an NCAA tournament appearance.

Prior to joining Cal State Bakersfield, Barnes made head coaching stops at Georgia State and Ole Miss. His most successful stretch came from 1998-2002 with the Rebels, making the NCAA tournament in three of his first seasons with the team.
