NCAA Game Summary - West Virginia at Rutgers
Piscataway, NJ (Sports Network) - Darryl Bryant led all scorers with 29 points as West Virginia blew out Rutgers, 85-64 in Big East action from the Rutgers Athletic Center.
For West Virginia (11-4, 2-1 BE), Bryant finished 7-of-13 from the floor and 11-of-13 from the free-throw line, while hitting four three-pointers. It marks the fourth time this season Bryant has gone over 20 points. Deniz Kilicli scored 16 points and Kevin Jones had a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.
Eli Carter led the way for Rutgers (8-7, 0-2), finishing with 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Jerome Seagears added 10 points and was the only other Scarlet Knight to finish in double digits. Mike Poole added a spark off the bench with eight points.
The game started on the sea-saw and a Poole jumper with 13:36 left in the first half put Rutgers up 10-9. That was the last lead Rutgers held however, as West Virginia finished the half on a 41-15 run. The Mountaineers finished the half shooting 57.7 percent and scored 12 fastbreak points to the Scarlet Knights zero.
With the game out of hand, Rutgers was able to close the gap ever so slightly in the second half, outscoring West Virginia 38-34 in the frame. Rutgers connected on only 2-of-11 three-pointers in the half as the Knights desperately attempted to come back.
This is West Virginia's seventh win in its last nine games, while Rutgers has now dropped two straight since its upset win over nationally-ranked Florida.
