Report: Texans drop Chris Clemons, Mike Thomas to make room for waiver additions

Aug 31, 5:02 PM

The Houston Texans have dropped a pair of veterans to make room for their waiver additions on Sunday.

Clemons joined the Texans this offseason after five seasons with the Miami Dolphins, and was projected to start at one of the safety spots. But Clemons fell out of favor with the coaching staff over the course of the summer, progressively dropping down the depth chart and eventually right off the roster.

Thomas spent the first four seasons of his career with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions, providing both squads with a reliable option in the slot.

Thomas was a member of the Arizona Cardinals`practice squad a year ago.

Report: Texans claim former Eagles wide receiver Damaris Johnson off waivers

Aug 31, 2:19 PM

The Houston Texans continued their wheeling and dealing Sunday by making a successful waiver wire claim for a player the Philadelphia Eagles cut loose Saturday:

At 5-foot-8 and only 175 pounds, Johnson probably doesn't have the size to be an every-down contributor in the NFL. He's a solid addition as a potential return man, however, and could even see some looks on offense as a deep threat or gadget player.
