Huggins gets extension with Mountaineers
Morgantown, WV (Sports Network) - West Virginia University and head men's basketball coach Bob Huggins have agreed to an amended contract extension.
Under the agreement, following the 2017-18 season, Huggins would assume a five-year Emeritus status appointment if he chooses to stop coaching the Mountaineers. He will earn $3 million this season and his Emeritus status will be paid at $50,000 per year in the deal that runs through the 2022-23 season.
The 59-year-old Huggins is in his sixth year coaching the Mountaineers, who lost their season opener Nov. 12 at Gonzaga. The Morgantown native has led the Mountaineers into the NCAA Tournament in each of his years at the helm, including the Final Four in 2010.
Huggins was a three-year letterman for the Mountaineers, graduated in 1977, and went on to earn his master's degree at WVU one year later.
