Former Indiana coach, player Watson dies
Bloomington, IN (Sports Network) - Lou Watson, who was once Indiana's all-time leading scorer and went on to coach the Hoosiers from 1966-71, has died.
Watson died Thursday in Fairfax, Virginia, at the age of 88, the school said in a release Saturday.
He starred on the basketball team from 1947-50 and became head coach in 1966, leading the Hoosiers to a Big Ten co-championship in 1967.
Later, Watson was named a special assistant to the athletic director in 1971 and then associate athletic director in 1976. He retired in 1987 and made the Indiana University Athletic Hall of Fame in 1989.
