Anthony Davis: To undergo multiple offseason surgeries

Coach Alvin Gentry said Sunday that Davis will require offseason surgery on his left knee in addition to a procedure to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Daniel Sallerson of Pelicans.com reports.

Analysis:

Davis was officially shut down for the rest of the 2015-16 season Sunday due to the multiple ailments hampering him, even though he's only been forced to miss seven games in total to this point. Neither of the offseason procedures are expected to prevent him from taking part in training camp during the coming fall, but no official timetable for his recovery has been established just yet. Given the team's long-term interest in preserving Davis, it makes sense for the Pelicans to hold their star out for the rest of the season, as the team is all but eliminated from playoff contention. Ryan Anderson figures to start at power forward for Davis once he returns from a groin injury that will keep him out of Sunday's game against the Clippers.
