Report: Grizzlies to re-sign thrice-waived center Ryan Hollins

The Memphis Grizzlies are picking up Ryan Hollins, again.

Having employed the journeyman center for parts of three stints already this season, the Grizzlies plan to reacquire him Wednesday, according to Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports.

Hollins was with the Grizzlies for training camp, was waived before the start of the regular season, signed with the Washington Wizards in late November, was waived less than a month later, signed with the Grizzlies again at the end of December, was waived just over a week later, inked a 10-day contract with Memphis two weeks after that, then got a second 10-day when the first expired. Once the second deal was up, the Grizzlies had to decide whether to sign Hollins for the remainder of the season or release him. They released him.

Now, he returns.

All told, Hollins has played 19 games this season (14 with Memphis), averaging 2.8 points and 2.3 rebounds in 10.8 minutes. The 31-year-old has suited up for nine teams in his 10-year career, and had managed to appear in 500 games despite never carving out much more than an end-of-bench role.

The Grizzlies are shorthanded in the frontcourt, with stalwart center Marc Gasol out for the season following foot surgery, and backup Brandan Wright dealing with an MCL sprain.

To make room for Hollins on the roster, the Grizzlies will waive forward James Ennis, according to Ethan Skolnick of the Miami Herald. Ennis, who came over with Mario Chalmers in a trade from the Miami Heat early in the season, played just 10 games and 40 total minutes in Memphis.
