New York Knicks small forward Carmelo Anthony was elected to the National Basketball Players Association executive committee on Friday by the Board of Player Representatives.

Anthony will replace former NBA player Willie Green. Stephen Curry and Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors and James Jones of the Cleveland Cavaliers were all re-elected, according to Bleacher Report's Howard Beck.

Anthony is a good friend of NBPA president Chris Paul and the union's first vice president, LeBron James.

"We expect Carmelo to make an immediate contribution to our union," said executive director Michele Roberts. "He's passionate, has the respect of the players, and I'm sure he will have a strong point of view during the collective bargaining process."

Both the players and owners have until Dec. 15, 2016 to opt out of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
