Cavaliers decimate Spurs, win 4th straight game under Tyronn Lue

The Tyronn Lue era for the Cleveland Cavaliers got off to a rough start with a 13-point loss to the Chicago Bulls on Jan. 23. Since that defeat, LeBron James and company have found their groove, rattling off four straight victories.

The San Antonio Spurs provided Cleveland's toughest test to date with Lue at the helm, having already knocked off the Cavaliers a few weeks ago. Not willing to concede another game to his Western Conference rival, James, along with "Big Three" partners Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving, obliterated the league's top defensive squad in convincing fashion on Saturday night, 117-103.

The James-Love-Irving trio each chipped in 20 or more points for a second game in a row, according to ESPN Stats & Info - the first time they've managed that feat this season. James led all scorers with 29 points and seven rebounds, Love had his second double-double in three games with 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Kyrie Irving contributed 21 points.

The Spurs, who were without veteran big man Tim Duncan for a third straight outing as he deals with a sore right knee, were incapable of stopping Cleveland's high-octane offensive attack, allowing 117 points - including a season-high 66 in the first half - five days after giving up 120 to the Golden State Warriors.

"It was a good win over a great team that will give us confidence," Lue said afterwards. Cleveland had gone 0-5 in five prior meetings with the Spurs, Warriors, and Bulls.

Beating an elite team like the Spurs as convincingly as Cleveland did should erase the sour taste leftover from uninspired, underwhelming victories against the Minnesota Timberwolves and Detroit Pistons. It was a statement win for the Cavaliers, and one they can build off as they head into the All-Star break with a fairly straightforward schedule, with only two of the six teams they're set to face possessing winning records.
