Report: Cavaliers interested in Jared Dudley

Jeremy Brevard / USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to add pieces for another run at the championship, and they have their eye on swingman Jared Dudley.

According to ESPN's Brian Windhorst, the Cavaliers "would love to get their hands on" Dudley, who profiles as a stretch-four for the floundering Washington Wizards.

Windhorst also mentioned that the Cavaliers are one of the most active teams on the trade market ahead of the Feb. 18 deadline.

The Cavaliers, however, don't have many liquid trade assets in the form of prospects or future picks. Their 2016 first-rounder belongs to Phoenix, and they're not owed any first-rounders from other teams, which means the earliest first Cleveland can part with is its 2018 selection. The Cavs' next two second-round picks also belong to Boston.

Cleveland does hold a trade exception worth $10.5 million that it can use to match any incoming salaries. That's more than enough to swallow the $4.5-million figure attached to Dudley.

It also remains to be seen if Washington will embark on a rebuild. Dudley has been effective for Washington, averaging 8.8 points, three rebounds, and 3.8 assists on 48 percent shooting from the field and 45.9 percent from deep.

The Cavaliers (35-13) sit atop the East, while the Wizards (21-26), who were looked upon as a dark-horse contender at the outset of the season, are in 10th.
