Report: Celtics intend to move Lee by trade deadline or buy him out

David Butler II-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Celtics will try to deal power forward David Lee ahead of the Feb. 18 NBA trade deadline, and failing that, will buy him out, according to Bleacher Report's Howard Beck.

Lee has been racking up DNP-CDs at a rapid rate recently, not appearing in a game since Jan. 10. The 11-year veteran was acquired from the Golden State Warriors in the offseason, and from the start it was understood he could be a trade candidate with the glut of traditional bigs on the Celtics roster.

A major appeal in another team adding Lee would be his expiring contract, as well as any veteran presence the 32-year-old could provide. He played sporadic yet helpful minutes in the Warriors' run to the title last season, averaging 5.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
