The Los Angeles Clippers plan to sign center Jeff Ayres to a 10-day contract to fill their open roster spot, Yahoo's Shams Charania reports.

Earlier on Friday, the Clippers reportedly dealt Josh Smith back to the Houston Rockets for cash considerations.

Ayres played with the San Antonio Spurs for two seasons, winning a championship in 2014, but was not re-signed last summer. He had an offer to play in China, but ultimately decided to go to the D-League and join the Idaho Stampede.

There, the 6-foot-10 center put up 16.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 54.7 percent from the field and 89.1 percent from the line.

Ayres boasts career averages of three points and 2.8 rebounds.
