Report: Despite talks with Bucks, Rockets holding onto Lawson

The Houston Rockets are sticking by disgruntled point guard Ty Lawson.

Lawson, who's name has been floated in trade rumors as early as December, will apparently stay put in Houston past the trade deadline, USA Today's Sam Amick reports.

The Rockets discussed a deal involving Lawson with the Milwaukee Bucks, Amick notes, who have a gaping hole at point guard thanks to injuries and the disappointing development of Michael Carter-Williams.

From the outside, it would appear Lawson has been more trouble than he's worth. He complained about his playing time, was suspended for two games, then another three for two DUI charges, and he's seen his averages drop by more than half across the board.

Statistic 2014-15 2015-16
MPG 35.5 24.6
PPG 15.2 6.6
APG 9.6 4.1
TES% 52.6 47.9
PER 18.5 9.9

The trade market, however, might be so shriveled up for Lawson's services it might make more sense for Houston to stand pat. He's proven to be an effective floor general in his previous six season in Denver, and his a non-guaranteed $13-million contract for 2016-17 could make for a useful offseason trade chip.
