Report: 'Several' teams asking Cavs about Mozgov
The Cleveland Cavaliers' recent decision to start Tristan Thompson at center ahead of Timofey Mozgov has "several" teams interested in acquiring the 7-foot-1 Russian, according to Yahoo Sports' Marc J. Spears.
Cavaliers head coach David Blatt has opted to start Thompson since Dec. 28, and Mozgov's minutes have fallen off as a result. He's averaging 11.3 minutes in three games in January, and played only five minutes in a win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday.
The report comes on the one-year anniversary of Mozgov's arrival in Cleveland, one of a handful of moves that helped spur the Cavs from a disappointing start to the NBA Finals last season.
There is no indication that the Cavaliers would deal Mozgov. They still require a backup big man, and Blatt is believed to be a fan of the center, whom he previously coached on the Russian national team.
The NBA's trade deadline is Feb. 18.
