Report: Nuggets to release Papanikolaou

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

The Denver Nuggets are releasing Kostas Papanikolaou, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.

The decision to part ways with the Greek forward was the Nuggets' prerogative ahead of the Jan. 10 contract guarantee deadline. Papanikolaou was traded to Denver from the Houston Rockets in the Ty Lawson deal last summer, was waived by the Nuggets, and then signed with them in November.

A second-round pick of the New York Knicks in 2012, Papanikolaou didn't arrive in North America until 2014 with the Rockets. He has averaged 3.6 points and 2.3 rebounds in 69 NBA games. The 6-foot-8 small forward has struggled with his shot, hitting only 35.4 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from deep.
