Celtics' Johnson out, Sullinger probable

The Boston Celtics will be short at least one body for their bout against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday.

Starting center Amir Johnson will miss his second straight game with a foot injury, while Jared Sullinger is probable to return from a one-game absence on account of his back.

Johnson was later spotted at practice wearing a protective walking boot, but the possibility remains that he could return for Saturday.

Johnson and Sullinger have been effective contributors for the 15-13 Celtics. The tandem is outscoring opponents by 5.8 points per 100 possessions and has made for a crafty dual-post threat. Sullinger is rebounding at the highest rate of his career, and the heady Johnson has adapted seamlessly after joining the Celtics in the offseason.

Their absences will hurt against a revamped Hornets squad that surprisingly ranks in the top 10 in both offensive and defensive efficiency, but the Celtics have depth in the frontcourt. Tyler Zeller, Kelly Olynyk, and David Lee are palatable options to fill in for the missing starters.

Johnson is averaging 7.5 points and 5.7 rebounds, while Sullinger is posting averages of 10 points and 9.5 rebounds.
