Brook Lopez, Draymond Green named NBA Players of the Week

Brook Lopez of the Brooklyn Nets (Eastern Conference) and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors (Western Conference) have been named NBA Players of the Week for games played Dec. 28 through Jan. 3, the league announced Monday.

The 2015-16 campaign hasn't brought much fortune for the lowly Nets, who are second from the bottom in the East with a 10-23 record. Lopez has been one of the team's few bright spots, averaging 19.8 points and 8.7 rebounds on 48.2 percent shooting on the season.

The 27-year-old 7-footer was an absolute force on both ends of the floor for Brooklyn during the week, leading the team to a 2-1 record with road wins over the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics. He also ranked near the top of the conference in nearly all major statistical categories, finishing second in points (26.7), third in rebounding (13.3), second in rejections (3.67), and sixth in field-goal percentage (60.9).

With double-doubles in each of his three outings, Lopez pushed his total on the year to 14, which is good enough for 14th in the NBA.

While Lopez was putting up big double-double numbers, Green was taking his game one step further with back-to-back triple-doubles for the reigning NBA champions.

The 2015 All-Defensive first team member tallied 10 points, 16 assists, and 11 rebounds in a four-point win over the Houston Rockets on New Year's Eve, then followed that performance up with a monster night of 29 points, 17 rebounds, and 14 assists in a 111-108 overtime victory over the Denver Nuggets two days later.

Other nominees included Jimmy Butler of the Chicago Bulls, LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers, J.J. Redick of the Los Angeles Clippers, Khris Middleton of the Milwaukee Bucks, C.J. McCollum of the Portland Trail Blazers, LaMarcus Aldridge of the San Antonio Spurs, and DeMar DeRozan of the Toronto Raptors.
