Suns' Bledsoe to undergo surgery for torn meniscus

The Phoenix Suns announced that point guard Eric Bledsoe will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Bledsoe is expected to miss roughly six weeks.

The 26-year-old left Saturday night's game against the Philadelphia 76ers with a knee injury after colliding with Robert Covington.

Bledsoe suffered a similar meniscus injury in his right knee in late 2013. He underwent surgery and ultimately missed 33 games in the 2013-14 season.

The loss of Bledsoe serves as a significant blow to Phoenix, which is already in a funk after four straight defeats. The Kentucky alumnus leads the Suns in player efficiency rating (21), as well as points (20.4), assists (6.1), and steals per game (two).

Rookie Devin Booker should take over Bledsoe's spot in the starting lineup. Booker played 20 minutes Saturday, totaling 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting. For the season, Booker is averaging six points on 48.7 percent from the field.

Bledsoe's impact was seen against Philadelphia, as the Suns eventually lost to a Sixers team that had just one win entering the game.

With Bledsoe's impact being felt mainly on the offensive end, Phoenix could struggle to score while their starting point guard sits. The team has a brutal schedule coming up with games against the Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, and Oklahoma City Thunder.
