Report: Kings promise to trade Caron Butler, likely to Bucks

Nailed to the bench in Sacramento, 35-year-old small forward Caron Butler is looking for some additional burn in his 14th and possibly final NBA season.

He's been DNP-CD'ed 14 times and has averaged just 10 minutes in the eight games he's played in.

The Kings have reportedly assured him they'll find him the extra playing time he desires, though not with their own organization.

Sacramento has promised Butler he'll be traded to a team that will be able to give him more minutes, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. The trade is expected to come soon after Christmas, if not before, with the Milwaukee Bucks emerging as the most likely destination, Stein reports.

While there's no telling whether the Bucks will in fact be able to offer the two-time All-Star a larger role, Stein notes that they are in need of a steadying, veteran locker-room presence following the more-damaging-than-expected offseason departures of Jared Dudley and Zaza Pachulia.

In addition, a move to Milwaukee would bring Butler - a Racine, Wis., native - closer to his roots as his career winds down. He played 34 games for the Bucks during the 2013-14 season before being waived.

Butler, who signed with Sacramento this past summer, has a player option worth roughly $1.5 million for next season. He's averaging 2.5 points while shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 12.5 percent from 3-point range for the Kings.
