Report: Pelicans interested in Markieff Morris

The New Orleans Pelicans have emerged as suitors for Phoenix Suns forward Markieff Morris, according to Yahoo's Shams Charania.

The teams had "preliminary discussions" on a potential trade, as the Pelicans are interested in pairing him with franchise superstar Anthony Davis.

The Houston Rockets have also been linked to Morris, who publicly called for the Suns to trade him after they betrayed his trust in sending away his twin brother, Marcus Morris, to the Detroit Pistons. The Suns big man has since changed his tune, but trade rumors suggest he could get his wish after all.

Morris' pending felony aggravated assault charges, however, loom as a potential obstacle in trade talks.

It also doesn't help that the 26-year-old's in the midst of his worst season to date, as he's shooting 38.6 percent from the floor and 27.9 percent from deep. He was benched last week for his abysmal performances.

None of that has deterred the Pelicans from expressing interest, and they could part with the expiring contract of Ryan Anderson in their pursuit. Anderson makes $8.5 million this year, which isn't far off from Morris' $8-million annual salary.

On paper, Anderson ranks as the better player. An elite spot-up shooter, when he mans the frontcourt with Anthony Davis, New Orleans typically thrives on offense.

Morris, however, carries a longer, team-friendly deal, and isn't as injury-prone as Anderson.
