Doc Rivers: J.J. Redick's ankle injury isn't serious

Breathe easy, Los Angeles Clippers fans. It's not more bad news.

Head coach Doc Rivers said after his team's 103-91 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday that shooting guard J.J. Redick's ankle injury isn't serious.

"That doesn't mean he doesn't miss some games, or he may play the next game," Rivers said. "He tried to give it a go at halftime. He just didn't feel like he could do it. The good news there is if he's trying to do it, that means it's not awful."

Redick sprained his ankle in the first half and was considered questionable to return. He did shoot a few free throws at halftime, but he ultimately decided to sit out the second half.

Earlier in the season, Redick missed three games due to back spasms. Otherwise, he's been a fixture for the Clippers yet again, with strong averages of 13.4 points per game on 47.8 percent shooting from the field and 45.7 percent accuracy from deep.

The bigger worry is Chris Paul, who's expected to miss a "couple games" with an inflamed rib. That throws the Clippers' backcourt rotation back into flux, as backups Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers have proved ineffectual thus far.

With Wednesday's loss, the Clippers have dropped to 10-9 following a 4-0 start, and their point differential only sits at plus-0.9 for the season, a far cry from last year's sterling mark of plus-6.6.
