Sixers fall to Grizzlies, match NBA record with 0-18 start

Despite holding a fourth-quarter lead for the fifth straight game, the Philadelphia 76ers matched an NBA record for consecutive losses to start a season with their 92-84 loss in Memphis on Sunday.

The loss to the Grizzlies dropped Philly to 0-18 on the season, which matches the all-time worst mark set by the 2009-10 New Jersey Nets. It also extended their overall record losing streak - including the final 10 games of last season - to 28.

Mike Conley scored a game-high 20 points for the Grizzlies, who improved to 10-8 with their seventh win in nine games.

Isaiah Canaan led the Sixers with 16 points, albeit on 5-of-15 shooting.

The record-tying loss punctuated another rough day for the franchise, as earlier on Sunday, it was revealed that rookie big man Jahlil Okafor had been pulled over driving 68 mph above the speed limit. It wasn't the first time this week that Okafor's off-court behavior was in the spotlight, as he was also caught punching a man outside of a Boston bar, and reportedly had a gun pulled on him in an October confrontation.

Okafor played 32 minutes and finished with nine points and 13 rebounds on 3-of-11 shooting against the Grizzlies.

The rebuilding Sixers, who began last season 0-17, will look to avoid setting a new mark for futility when they host the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.
