Heat's Deng out vs. Pistons due to hamstring issue

Miami Heat small forward Luol Deng will not play in Wednesday's game against the Detroit Pistons, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman.

He was listed as doubtful earlier Wednesday.

The 11-year veteran, who has not missed a game yet this season, will be sidelined for the first time in 2015-16 due to a hamstring issue, and will evaluate his readiness for Friday's contest versus the New York Knicks closer to the date.

"We're just trying to be cautious, trying to be smart," he told Winderman.

"I played the last game and it hasn't gotten any better, so I think we just want to be smart and just try to get rid of the little nagging injury that will just linger on and become something else."

Deng initially sustained the injury in Saturday's win over the Philadelphia 76ers, but felt good enough to play on Monday against the Knicks.

He is averaging 10.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.9 steals through 13 games.

With Deng out, Gerald Green and rookie Justise Winslow will likely see extended minutes at the three-spot.
