Timberwolves rest Kevin Garnett vs. Magic

With over 50,000 regular-season minutes on his body, Minnesota Timberwolves power forward Kevin Garnett could use all the rest he can get.

As Timberwolves interim head coach Sam Mitchell announced prior to Wednesday's game against the Orlando Magic, rest is exactly what Garnett is getting on the second night of a back-to-back.

The 39-year-old Garnett is playing his 21st season since making the jump to the NBA from high school in 1995. Despite his advanced age, Garnett has been an effective presence both on and off the court for the upstart Timberwolves in his second year with the team.

Minnesota is holding opponents to a robust 97.5 points per 100 possessions with Garnett on the floor, and are outscoring opponents by six points per 100 possessions.

Offense, however, is a different case for "The Big Ticket." He's averaging only 2.8 points per game on 46.4 percent shooting from the floor as he's essentially transitioned into a mid-range jump-shooter in his elder years.

Adreian Payne drew the start in the last game Garnett sat out due to rest.
