Heat's Green apologizes for incident that led to suspension

Gerald Green of the Miami Heat returned to the practice court Saturday for the first time since serving a two-game suspension for detrimental conduct.

"I want to apologize to the Miami Heat organization, I want to apologize to my family, and most importantly I want to apologize to my fans," Green told reporters, 10 days removed from an incident where the swingman was hospitalized after reports of agitated and combative behavior in the lobby of a downtown condo complex.

Neither Green nor the Heat have offered any further explanation for the Nov. 4 incident, in which the 10-year NBA veteran threw a punch at someone else, according to a police incident report obtained by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Charges were not filed.

"I'm just trying to just get over this situation," Green said. "I can't apologize enough to the residents that lived in my building, my fans who supported me, and definitely my family.

"I'm ready to move forward. I'm ready to continue with the team's goals. I'm ready to be with my brothers."

The suspension will cost Green $25,000 in salary. He was also fined the same amount by the league during the preseason for "menacing gestures" after using finger guns in a preseason game. The 2007 All-Star Slam Dunk champion signed a one-year deal with the Heat for the veteran's minimum this past summer.
