Kings' Gay out vs. Nets with stomach flu

Jennifer Stewart-USA TODAY Sports

Sacramento Kings forward Rudy Gay will not play Friday night against the Brooklyn Nets after apparently being admitted to hospital due to gastroenteritis.

Veteran Caron Butler will get the start in his place.

This will be the first game of the season that Gay misses for the 2-7 Kings, who are coming off a 101-92 win at home against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.

His numbers through nine outings are slightly down from a year ago, with the UConn alumnus averaging 17.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists on 42.7 percent shooting.

Gay dropped 25 points in 39 minutes of action in the victory over Detroit.
