Pelicans' Holiday out vs. Mavericks

Craig Mitchelldyer / USA TODAY Sports

New Orleans Pelicans point guard Jrue Holiday will not play against the Dallas Mavericks Saturday, according to The Times-Picayune's John Reid.

Holiday has not yet been cleared to play in back-to-backs, and has been on a minutes restriction in the early stages of the season.

In spite of those playing-time limitations, the seven-year veteran has averaged 23.5 minutes through the past four games - about eight minutes over the initial team-imposed cap.

Holiday has put together respectable numbers to date - 13 points and 5.3 assists per game while hitting 38.5 percent of his 3-pointers.

The 25-year-old floor general has played in every game this season except for the Pelicans' season opener versus the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 27.

Backup guard Ish Smith will start in Holiday's absence.
