Pelicans' Perkins out indefinitely with right pectoral injury

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

New Orleans Pelicans center Kendrick Perkins will be out of action indefinitely after suffering a right pectoral injury during Saturday's game against the Golden State Warriors, the team announced Sunday.

A timetable for the 30-year-old's return will be revealed at a later date.

Perkins is averaging 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds on 80 percent shooting from the field over the first three games of the season.

He's started in place of the injured Omer Asik, who was on the sidelines with a strained right calf.

Asik made his return Saturday, picking up two personal fouls and grabbing one rebound in 10 minutes off the bench. He'll likely be reinserted into the starting lineup (he started all 76 of his games in 2014-15) now that Perkins is set to miss time.
