Matthews (Achilles) will not play Thursday versus the Clippers, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reports.

Analysis:

Matthews was originally not expected to return from his Achilles injury until mid-to-late December, but made a surprisingly quick recovery and started Opening Night. It's not much of surprise however, that the Mavericks are being cautious with him on back-to-backs early on in the season. Along with back-to-back caution, Matthews will likely be on a minute restriction early on this season.
