Knicks' Afflalo, Seraphin out for season opener

The New York Knicks will be short two rotation players when they open the season against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Shooting guard Arron Afflalo (hamstring) and center Kevin Seraphin (knee) will be sidelined on Wednesday, the team announced.

Afflalo is day-to-day after an MRI revealed a sprain in his left hamstring. He aggravated the injury during the Knicks' final preseason game last Friday.

Seraphin, meanwhile, is nursing a sore right knee which sidelined him for two of the Knicks' six preseason contests.

The 30-year-old Afflalo was considered a key acquisition for the Knicks, who nabbed him on a two-year, $16-million contract. Afflalo is a dependable two-way guard when healthy, and averaged 13.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists while shooting 35.4 percent from deep last season.

Seraphin, on the other hand, joined the Knicks on a one-year, $2.8-million deal. He's expected to back up starter Robin Lopez and provide interior scoring for New York's second unit.

Sasha Vujacic, who hasn't played in the NBA in nearly two years, will draw the start at shooting guard.
